Privacy Policy

Kalo is a health and nutrition tracking app. This Privacy Policy explains how the Kalo iOS app and website handle information, including the optional meal photo analysis feature.

Information You Enter in the App

The app may allow you to enter a medication label, dose label, reminder schedule, dose records, weight entries, symptoms, nutrition goals, meal details, and daily habit check-ins. Confirmed records and meal thumbnails are stored locally on your device using Apple system storage unless a feature explicitly explains otherwise.

No Account Required

Kalo does not require you to create an account, choose a password, or provide an email address. The app uses a randomly assigned anonymous Firebase identifier to secure meal-analysis requests, apply rate limits, and keep requests separate between app installations.

Meal Photo Analysis

When you choose Analyze Photo, Kalo prepares and compresses the selected image on your device, then sends that copy through a secured Firebase callable function to Google Gemini so it can estimate visible foods, portions, calories, and nutrients. Kalo does not upload a meal photo until you tap the analysis button.

The raw photo is processed for the requested analysis and is not written to Kalo's Firestore database. Kalo temporarily stores the anonymous request identifier, processing status, and structured analysis result for retry protection and rate limiting. Those request records are configured to expire after approximately 24 hours. The confirmed result and thumbnail remain in the app's local storage until you delete them or clear local data.

AI nutrition results are estimates and may be inaccurate. You can review and edit the result before anything is added to your daily log.

Subscriptions

Purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Kalo receives subscription product and entitlement information but does not receive your payment card details. For Premium meal analysis, a signed StoreKit transaction is sent to the Kalo service and verified with Apple before the request is processed.

Advertising Measurement and App Tracking Transparency

After onboarding, Kalo may ask for permission under Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. If you allow tracking, Kalo initializes the Meta App Events SDK to measure whether advertising leads to app activation, onboarding completion, paywall visits, purchase attempts, free-trial starts, subscriptions, and verified purchases. Related event details may include the app version and build, paywall entry point, subscription product and plan type, localized price and currency, and the fact that tracking permission was authorized.

Meta may process device identifiers and standard technical information, such as IP address and device or app information, to provide advertising measurement and attribution. This can involve linking information from Kalo with activity from other companies' apps or websites. If you select Ask App Not to Track, or if tracking is restricted, Kalo does not initialize the Meta SDK or send these App Events. You can change the permission later in iOS Settings.

Kalo does not send meal photos, nutrition records, medication details, dose records, weight, symptoms, onboarding health answers, free text, Firebase identifiers, or other health data to Meta. Meta events are limited to acquisition and subscription-funnel measurement.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, Kalo uses local notifications on your device. Notification permission is optional and can be changed in iOS Settings.

Website Data

The Kalo website is a static informational website. Hosting providers may process standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested, and timestamps for security, delivery, and operational purposes.

Third-Party Services

Kalo uses Apple StoreKit for subscriptions; Firebase Authentication and Cloud Functions for secure meal-analysis requests; Google Gemini for meal images and structured meal information only when you request nutrition analysis; and, only after App Tracking Transparency authorization, Meta App Events for advertising attribution and subscription-funnel measurement. Kalo does not use health information or meal photos for cross-app tracking or advertising.

Data Deletion

You can clear local app data from the Me tab in the app. You can also delete the app from your device, which removes local app data according to iOS behavior. Temporary server-side analysis request records expire automatically after approximately 24 hours. Contact Kalo support if you need help with a privacy request.

Health and Medical Information

Kalo is not a medical provider and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, medication instructions, or dosage recommendations. Information you enter is for personal tracking and clinician discussion only.

Children

Kalo is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through Kalo, contact us so we can respond appropriately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
